I have surprised myself and my wife in how far I have come. I take two lessons a week with Rafa. I wish I had time in my schedule to do more. Lessons are fun and engaging. Rafa provides the study materials. Part of the lessons is made up of general chat using the Spanish you have learnt. Rafa is very good at getting to know you fast and makes you feel super comfortable . He is an absolute pro and I am so happy that I found him. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn Spanish. As a language teacher myself I appreciate Rafa´s solid linguistic understanding of his language and his ability to communicate that understandng to his students. When learning an additional language we come with some understanding of language structures and grammar in our own language. But this can vary from person to person. Rafa understands this and will meet you at your own level of understanding. I highly recommend that you take on Rafa as your Spanish language teacher. He has a good sense of humour along with excellent English himself. You will have fun in the lessons and enjoy interesting conversations in Spanish, making the learning relevant and organic. Rafa's affable demeanor and sense of humour allayed my reservation immediately. He explained his teaching style and demostrated the advantages of the easy to use Skype platform as a learning tool. This self-paced individual instruction has proved to be the best thing I could have done. I no longer feel nervousness of embarking on a conversation with a native speaker which will in turn accelerate my learning further. Without Rafa, his approach, encouragement and reassuring support I would not feel this confident in all aspects of my Spanish utilisation. Languages have never been one of my strengths, in fact the older I get the more intimidating it seems. However, I do have a passion for travel with many places inCentral and Southern America high on my bucket list. Plus for many years now I have wanted to retire to Spain; but in an immersive way, with an understanding of the culture and a degree of fluency in the language. So, I decided to bite the bullet and commit to aSpanish language learning program. For one semester I tried a weekly class at night school but I was unable to dedicate the necessary hours to study due to many other commitments in a busy working life. Duolingo was my next venture, and while it has many facets to help students I am not a rote learner, repetition alone is not enough, I need to ask questions to understand things fully, which then helps with my memorisation. Finally a friend suggested that I may be more suited to individual instruction, one-on-one lessons with a teacher delivered on-line at a time of my choosing that worked with my schedule. She recommended Rafa after benefitting from his tuition. Rafa arranged an on-line introductory meeting with me where he explained his teaching style and demonstrated the advantages of the easy to use Skype platform as a learning tool. Rafa uses Skype which allows for flexibility in our lessons times. But , it still maintains our 1to 1 personalized lessons. Give him a try! I lived in Spain for about 7 years, and worked as a restaurant manager. During that time I was lucky enough to pick up quite a lot of Spanish, but it was mostly vocabulary or speaking in the present tense. This was quite frustrating when I tried to make sentences, and have conversations. I found Rafa, and since I have learnt so much new material that now I can talk about things that happened yesterday, things I used to do in the past, what I am going to do tomorrow, things that I would like to do in the future... One of the really great things about Rafa is his attention to detail, all the little bits that you would not be able to pick up from, say, a magazine about how to string sentences together. A lot of the time in our lessons as we learn new things, he makes one talk a lot! One of the problems I have is confidence in having a conversation. So he really tailors the lesson to what I need and tries to get the best out of the time I have with him. He is really professional, Rafa. And he will push you to do the best that you can do. But, I think my favourite thing is that he makes the lessons fun. I can have an hour-long lesson and it is really hard learning a new language, but at the end of it you feel like you have really achieved something. So, I want to say "Thank you, Rafa”
